Television Craft - Day 1

This was the first of many practice practical sessions where we learn how to use the new cameras (Panasonic AC160s) and try properly setting up sound on the cameras through the boom microphones (shown below).

Most of my past experience with cameras came from my use of DLSR's during my two-year Film & TV college course so I attempted to apply those techniques to the new cameras which helped me to learn how to correctly alter the camera's settings.

First Camera Setup
First Session Of Television Craft

The biggest things I learnt from this first session was how to correctly white balance the cameras (hold a pad in front of the camera, zoom in and focus and then press the button at the front of the camera). I also figured out what the difference between gain and white balance and how they each alter light and how changing the exposure lets more of less light into the camera, effecting what the final shot looks like.

These techniques really helped when we went out for a test shoot where we had to do a quick interview with one and other in around 15 minutes to test what we had learnt which we then looked over to see if we could many any improvements.

Overall, this was a successful and enjoyable first session and the sessions we had after have quickly expanded on what can be done with cameras through simple techniques.
