One of the biggest challenges for me when it came to the first part of the film was finding and organizing archive footage which was finding clips that were clearly connected to both what was being said in the voiceover and the discussions during the first three interviews. The first film was a lesson in how to pick out keywords from the script and then use those as the inspiration when it came to sourcing footage from the likes of YouTube and a website called Pexels which became the most frequently used source for the second film.
Whilst the style of the two films remained consistent in terms of topics beings discussed (e.g. the impact of COVID-19 on the music industry), how I went about finding footage for part 2 differed as focusing on established companies meant it was more likely there would be footage from old events already available on YouTube and various social media platforms whereas, in part 1, the footage found from events was more general (excluding various footage found for Dread MC) as we wanted the focus to be more on the problems the creators have faced. This viewpoint carried over into part 2 but now with the additional task of collecting footage that would help establish a sense of hope for the future of the music industry following the changes to the UK COVID-19 guidelines.
As I previously mentioned, finding keywords in the script as a way to create a guide to find the footage proved to the best course of action and the words could be something as simple as "sound" or "voices" and that would be enough to be able to find a video to help fill in the gaps between the interviews. Shown below is an example I took from part 2:
'Will The Sound Fade Out?' is very different from anything I have made during my time at university and whilst the overall topics would have remained the same had our production been filmed on location, the shooting style will have most likely been different due to our choices of equipment (e.g. the Sony FS5) and the impact on our chosen location had the interviews been shot in person instead of through Zoom.
