Studio work is already proving to be one of my favourite parts of the course and this bit of work helped back that up even more. The activity on this day was to help out another of their studio shoots by being the crew for the uni's second TV studio which led to us finding a second gallery nobody knew existed.
For this project, I took up the role of the vision mixer (shown above) with the first part of the day being used to figure out how the system worked as it was a different layout to the setup in the main gallery despite also having less cameras to work with in studio 2 (3 instead of 5). The group we were working with (group D) had also chosen to do a Christmas themed show so we were able to take some of the techniques that we had learnt from our Christmas show (involving cameras etc.) and utilise those for this session.
The first half of the day was used for studio 1 to being run through of their show up until the transition to our studio, giving them time to go through the running and film the remaining VT's for the show. This gave our group the opportunity to figure out our set layout and camera set-ups before our run through and when we were due to go live (around 3.30pm). We did end up going live later than planned due to some technical and timing issues but overall, it was a very successful show and reminded me both how fun and important the role of the vision mixer is.
