Following on from my previous post, this week helped me narrow down the specific areas of cinematography I want to expand into as the chosen style for out graduate project is currently a documentary which can be executed in a variety of ways depending on the subject in question. Some of the areas I plan to keep the same as I am working as directer for the promotional aspects of the project before moving back over to camera.
Alongside these changes, this week's guest lecturers (Tom Parratt from Mambo Media & Ian Sutherland who edited Spooks) gave us insight into how editing has changed since the 1970's with the advancements in digital editing. Editing is one of the areas I hope to do some work on at some points year to test out specific aspects as each speaker pointed out the fact that being multi-skilled in this industry can be very useful. This is something that I hope to achieve to the best of my ability throughout the year and what I choose to do after 3rd year, starting the camera workshops.
The workshops are giving us a chance to test out new cameras this year (2nd year's being the Panasonic 371's) and this years being the Sony FS5 (shown above) and the Sony F57 starting off with practising handheld camera work again. This is something I need to try again mainly due to the fact I specialised in studio for 2nd year which limited the opportunities to use the cameras alongside the course moving completely online towards the end of March.
