For me, the planning stages during pre-production have been more of a challenge than the production side of the two films due to the number of additional aspects the group needs to consider when it comes to creating a production fully online. The idea for this production went through several changes in terms of which areas of the music industry we wanted to feature as our main areas.
The majority of the productions I have worked on during my time at university has had at least one instance of either not getting a response from a potential contributor or the correspondence with someone ending abruptly. Whilst this was the case for our graduate project, understanding the importance of constantly looking for new contributors was now more important than ever as one key element that needed to be featured in our documentary was a clear variety of opinions when it comes to discussing COVID-19 and the lockdowns.
At this stage in the production, our main goals now are to look through the key information obtained during our first set of interviews to determine what to include in the final product with the current plan being choosing answers from the contributors that we like and asking them to re-record them using their own equipment. Alongside the writing of the script, this is being used as the template for helping us find the best archive footage to fill in the gaps between the interviews and to be used as the background for the documentary's narration.
This movement forward has now helped our group determine specific dates of what needs to be completed over the next few weeks, with the primary focus currently being on the first 15-minute film before continuing on into part two.
