This was one of the projects that I was easily looking forward to the most as I had already done studio work during my two year college course and I was really nice to go back into similar work. For this shoot, I was one of the three camera operators which I'd done twice before both at university and before and gave me more freedom to try different techniques.
The first part of the day was dedicated to the setup of the show and filming the news/weather segments which I was the camera operator for and after this, I mainly worked with the director (Sam) about what shots would be key towards the show (the opening and closing shots) and once again getting used to how the camera worked. Our official shoot time wasn't until 3/4pm and the main portion of the afternoon was dedicated to finalising the set design for the Christmas feel and figuring out a final running order.
There were some minor timing issues towards the end which meant we weren't able to get in as many rehearsals and we had originally planned as we had to figure out how to stretch the interviews to fit the official runtime (15 minutes) based on the length of the show's VTs. In total, we got in two quick rehearsal shoots before the actual filming, which had some other timing issues of their own, turned out very well when we watched it back in the studio.
Overall, it was a very successful day with some ups and downs but it gave everyone an idea about how a certain role worked and how important each is to the production and gave people enough time to think about what role they could in the next studio shoot, two weeks after.
To finish this post, I'm going to leave you with a video of what happened when we were testing the music for the breaks:
