Editing Workshops

The TV production course includes two different kinds of workshops - camera which I've talked about in previous posts and editing in which we've so far learnt about the types of software professional crew uses, starting with Avid Media Composer.

The first task we had set over the first few sessions was to take unedited footage from a scene from The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring (shown below) and organise it into the order we think is correct. This helped me understand how certain systems in the editing software functioned ranging from simple areas from changing the volume on audio tracks to creating whole new sequences without losing old work.

This was quite a departure for me in terms of editing as I had been used to used Adobe Premiere Pro throughout college so I'm still not fully used to how some things work but practice both during the sessions and in my own time will definitely help. I'm planning on making personal projects using both software's so I can understand their similarities and differences when it comes to post-production.
