Cinematography has always been a key interest of mine and this year is already clearly giving us more freedom when it comes to choosing what areas we want to develop during the unit. I've specifically chosen areas across all aspects of productions such as editing and lighting effects but the area I want to work on the most is handheld camerawork and trying out more advanced camera techniques. There are a variety of options as to what could be used to help create more stable shots such as cage kits/rigs (example shown below) and my current plan is to book out equipment on my own time to test out different shots.
Whilst the primary goal of this unit is to continue improving my skills with the camera, this is also a good opportunity to continue advancing in other roles alongside cinematography, specifically directing.
Outside of the workshops, this will mainly be a research based activity, with my main sources of information being LinkedIn Learning and E-books I've found through research. Example books: 'Directing and Producing for Television: A Format Approach' by Ivan Cury, 'Directing and Producing for Television: A Format Approach' by Manuel Alvarado, Milly Buonanno, Herman Gray and Toby Miller and 'The Insiders' Guide to Factual Filmmaking' by Tony Stark (one of our guest speakers on my course).
