Character Shoot - Final Shoot Of 2018

This was a different type of shoot for me as I was more involved with the planning rather than the shooting process and I chose to be production manager for this shoot so I now had a idea of how to execute each role across the whole production spectrum. The narrative for this film took inspiration from the opening of 2000's American Psycho whereas our film showed two people going out on a date, one of them getting drunk and then the other causally murdering the other when they get home. Yeah, that heartfelt story.

Dylan's Bar At Bournemouth University

The first part of the shoot took place at Dylan's Bar (shown above) at BU and was used to shoot the date scenes which acted as character introductions and the setup for what was to come afterwards. We had around two hours to film everything in this section and decided to stay in the area shown above to avoid getting in anyone's way. The only problem we had had up until this point was that our main actor had pulled out just before the shoot so we had to switch around the roles on location meaning our crew could work as the actors. This part of the shoot allowed us to properly utilise the lighting kits whilst working around the bright lights around the table to create the feel of a romantic evening alongside using the light to represent danger.

The second part of the shoot took place in one of the university's accommodation (Lansdowne Point) and gave us more freedom in terms of how much time we had to shoot whilst constraining us as there was a limited amount of space in the room we were filming in. Due to the limited space, it was decided we would switch out who was working as crew, giving other people a chance to take a break. We finished filming roughly an hour before we expected and then I quickly transferred all the footage over meaning I could finally go home for Christmas.

Taking up the role of production manger, whilst being stressful, really showed me how important planning for every little thing can really impact a production and now meant I had done at least one role across all the areas of production up until now.
